Oriental Schoolhouse Condos

The Oriental Schoolhouse Condos project highlights Olive Architecture’s mastery in historic and adaptive reuse. Andy Lawrence, AIA and principal architect also served as owner and developer of the Oriental NC project through the sale of the property to the homeowners. This transformation turns two separate historic schoolhouses into modern, stylish condos while preserving the original structures and restoring some of the lost historic character of the buildings. The design created 12 condominiums reusing much of the interior beaded board walls and ceiling finishes as wainscot in the individual units. Each unit is thoughtfully crafted to offer light filled interior spaces while maintaining the character of the historic structure. The project includes private patios, trellis work and landscaping to soften the façades of the masonry school building.
